It seemed that, in his day, no one liked Jeremiah. The men of his own community in Anathoth (a Levite city in the territory of Benjamin) threatened him with death (Jeremiah 11:21) over his prophesies of doom, gloom and subjugation. In Jerusalem he was painted as a traitor to the nation because, contrary to the prosperity gospel preached by his prophesying peers, he was declaring with absolute certainty the fall of the capital to the Babylonian pagans.
It is quite the miracle that the hatred his country had for him did not result in his execution. Following a group of Judean refugees to Egypt, he warned them of their upcoming encounter with Nebuchadnezzer, the King of Babylon himself, which alienated the prophet from their affections all the more.
Even today, the Book of Jeremiah is a difficult (yet necessary) read: full of judgment, horror, tragedy, a flood of tears and inexpressible grief. It is a tree that produces the harvest from centuries of disobedience, disloyalty, rebellion, greed, oppression, injustice, corruption, murder, arrogance and pride even while the perpetrators identified themselves as the People of GOD and the Greatest Nation on the face of the Earth...
...sound familiar?
Jeremiah was not a traitor. He loved his nation and his God. Yet he came to a point in his life where, through no fault of his own, he was forced to choose between the two.
The American church passed that Point of Decision some time ago...sad to say, not all of its members made the right decision. We are well-past the point in time where American patriotism and the devotion of Christian Faith can hold hands before the Liberty Bell. The Judgment has been set and the books have been opened...
...the United States of America has been weighed in the balances and is found to be lacking to such a level of severity...there may be no way back.
What is the source of my inconsolable grief and tears, Dear Reader, as one who passionately loves his country despite its unforgivable crimes, is the Truth of GOD's Holy Justice and Righteous Vengeance...which demands an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.
To wit: as with all the nations of the world, every atrocity committed by the United States against its neighbors and it's own citizens must be placed on its own head.
I fear, therefore, the Imminent arrival of nuclear holocaust to our beloved shores as prophesied by the Evangelist Asa A. Allen.
The Nation of Israel never imagined in its wildest nightmares the extent of devastation it suffered under the Midians, the Assyrians, the Babylonians and the Romans--all of which could have been avoided if it had heeded the voices of its holy prophets:
“You only have I known of all the families of the earth: therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities.” -Amos 3:2 KJV
It is our claim to be a Nation under the GOD of the Bible, Creator of Heaven and Earth, that makes us liable for the STRICTEST penalties and judgments for our sins.
My counsel to the American church is this: set aside your futile ambition to make the United States of America a Christian Nation. Abandon your quest for political power and favor in the White House and the Congress. Stop wasting the precious little time you have left on attacking the left and the LGBTQ community and devote yourself to The One Great Task you are best equipped for: FALLING ON YOUR KNEES IN HUMILITY, REPENTANCE, SUPPLICATION, ENTREATY and INTERCESSION.
I can think of no other activity that may halt the terrifying Juggernaut that is coming towards us with such wrathful intent.
